So Glad We're Friends - Another PTI challenge :)

For today's contest, Nichole, of Papertrey Ink (PTI), has asked us to create a card that incorporates hearts.

Well, to be honest, I've been "hearted" out...and all my Valentine's Day cards are created and sent. So, when I sat down, my first creation was... let's just say... disHEARTening. (Couldn't resist! :P )

But conversely, I'm quite happy with how this card came out...

My pen pal likes to T's me!

Yes, you read that correctly... my pen pal, Stephanie, likes to T's me! That is, she likes to give me a challenge when I give her a challenge! :P

I challenged us both to use "T" in our card creation...and she then went on to say that we needed to create a "T"all card... that is, a card that was 4" x 9" (to fit in a legal envelope). I admitted that I thought she meant a "t" all card (meaning we had to use nothing but "T" in our card)...so here you have it.

Pinterest and Papertrey Ink

As part of PTI's 5th anniversary, it was announced they have their own Pinterest board! :) If you haven't checked out Pinterest, be sure to do so...it's quite inspirational. :)

We were challenged to find something on Pinterest and to create a card based on this "pin". I was eager to try this, as I've been meaning to make more use of Pinterest.

Friend - PTI Color Challenge

As you may, or may not, know... Papertrey Ink (PTI) is hosting an Anniversary Contest many days before their big release. Today, their challenge is to choose a color theme (that is beloved by one of the DT members) and use it on a card. :)

It was Jessica Witty's color theme that "spoke" to me:

I loved the neutral combination with a splash of blue. :) Very earthy to me. :)

Happy birthday, big kitty!

A while back, I stumbled upon another crafter's blog and saw that she used copper embossing on chocolate brown paper. When I saw some telephone stamps from Hero Arts, I knew I had to add them to my ever-growing arsenal. I've been trying to make it a goal of mine to get images that I don't have. I don't have any phones (I don't think?!) so these were perfect. :)

Praying for You (outside my comfort zone!)

Still playing along with PTI's anniversary contest, I decided to take a look at Dawn's favorite project (seen here). Now, you know how everybody has a style. While I have always thought Dawn McVey's style is so fun, colorful, and just... vibrant! It's not a style I would ever think I'd try adopting. Well, I'm glad I took the risk because I'm actually quite happy with this card:

These are three colors I would have never tried on my own with a composition/layout I would never have attempted on my own. Dawn, I am so glad you chose the card you chose, because it caused me to stretch my skills...so thank you!! :) (If you ever read this ;) )

You Color My World

And so does Maile Belles...well at least she colors my world when it comes to crafting. :) I love Maile's clean-and-simple (CAS) style and how she makes a WOW out of minimal supplies and images.

For PTI's 5th anniversary, they are having several contests. The first is to find a design team member (or members) who inspires (or inspire) us and look at their favorite project. Then, we are to design and make a card based on that project. :)

How easy it was for me to use Maile...as she's wonderfully creative! Here's the project SHE chose:

Ever since I got the heart border die (from PTI), I knew I wanted to use a rainbow of colors, but use the NEGATIVE space... well, I got my chance today and finally came up with this:

Now, I was going to simply put colored strips down and then die-cut some kraft heart borders and lay them on the strips. But no, that would have been too easy. :P So, instead, if cut out the NEGATIVES of the border die cuts and used those. So, although you can't tell, those kraft heart borders you see? Well, they're actually the kraft base card! :)

It really wasn't as hard as you might think. ;) I simply laid down the purple bottom...then used a heart border die cut-out (the POSITIVE) as a guide to then lay down the top purple portion. I know that is as clear as mud, but try it...it's doable! :)

Thanks - Stitches & Swirls

Well, there is always a chance than when Papertrey Ink (PTI) releases an image that I won't like it when it's first sneak-peeked, but then I think differently when I see it in action.

Stitches and Swirls is just such a set. :P

I thought I wouldn't like the stitched look and heaven knows I have enough floral images. But then I saw it in action (with the DT and with other customers) and thought I might enjoy it after all.

I figured I would try to heat emboss with white to emulate "thread" and I really do like how it turned out. :)

I was striving for "vintage" meets "fabric". Not sure I pulled it off! LOL! Hopefully you can see that I used the linen impression plate (PTI) to give the red paper some "fabric" type appearance. :P

So, I'm browsing through YouTube (as I customarily do) and I stumbled upon a very cool tutorial given by somebody who works for no other than Stampin' Up! I just knew when I got home I'd have to try it. :)

I've had the distinct pleasure of making a new crafting friend via this crazy Internet world. :) Not only is she a new friend, but she's an amazingly creative muse. Her name is Stephanie and you can check out her blog here.

Well, not too long after I quickly added her blog to my reader, I saw this lovely creation:

And I commented on it and how I'm going to have to now hunt high and low for that wonderful embossing folder.

Well, not long after that, I get some communication from Stephanie stating that if I'd like the embossing folder, she'd send it to me as a gift. I had to do a double-take, but, after making sure she was 100% certain, I graciously accepted. A few days ago, it came from over the pond to arrive in my very appreciative hands.

Here's what I did with it (note: I just NOW realized I used the same butterfly die from Love Lives Here... I guess her card dug into my subconscious ;) )

Well, I'm actually writing this post on the 16th, but I'm scheduling it to appear on my mom's birthday, January 28. You see, the genius that I am, I taught my mom how to use Google Reader and even put my blog on there...so, in order to keep this a surprise, I have to post-schedule it! :P

Anyway, I wanted to try something new with her birthday card and create some panels of coordinating colors. Also, I thought it might be interesting to see how some pinks and chocolate would look together and so I experimented with that as well.

Papertrey January Blog Hop Challenge

Well, it's been a while since I've joined a Papertrey Ink blog hop so I figured let's start off the new year with a blog hop...what do you say? :)

I stumbled upon a blog by a lady named Winter Sims. She has a wonderful drive going on right now. We can send Valentines to children who are in hospitals (for various reasons) and she'll send them off to them. She has some guidelines, of course, and you can read them here.

There are also chances to win some fantastic prizes from very generous sponsors! You ought to check it out! I'm going to request NOT to be entered for a prize because I selfishly had a real blast creating this card I'm about to show. :) (Translation: I usually don't have such luck with window cards! ;) )

Birthday - Fly Away!

Well, what started out as a Valentine's card ended up as a whimsical birthday card. :)

I'll be honest... I was not crazy about the results. I'm not much of a whimsical guy. I loved being able to try my new Market Streets background stamp "Here Comes the Sun"... I can see so many options!

It's just the Fly Away plane...while it's cute, I don't see it as being useful for any of my recipients. Then I realized... it would make a perfect card for any kid's birthday. :)

Valentine's Day with a cherry on top!

Yesterday morning, I woke up and whipped up this card to play along with the Online Clean & Simple class I'm taking. It was the Day 7 assignment (create a white card). It was mentioned how some find it intimidating. I find it actually rather freeing myself. :)

Altered Composition Book

My buddy, Kathleen and I have had a running promise for a while now that someday we're each going to buy Vespas and go cruising. She'd be getting a pink one (with matching helmet) and I'll be getting a green one (helmet as well!) ;)

So, during these last holidays, she found a Vespa mug at Starbucks and had to surprise me with it. So, staying in the same spirit, when I found some Vespa patterned paper locally, I had to snag it, with the intentions of making her a nice thank-you card. :)

However, it occurred to me that she loves her notebooks...(especially ones I make for her)...so, I thought, "What the heck?! I'll alter a composition book for her." And so here you have the fruits of my labor. :)

The focal image is glued flat to the cover. I was about to have it with dimensionals, but then I figured that wouldn't be practical... it would be too easy to knock it off or ruin it. So, I opted to have it flush with the cover. Sometimes function has to win over fashion. ;) (I'm a guy, so it's easier for me to say that!) ;)

I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. It was easier than I thought it would be. I just searched on YouTube on how to alter composition books and went from there. :) I knew I wanted to add some ribbon all the way around the cover, but the inside of this composition book had reference tables, charts, etc. and it was just plain ugly. So I got some Vintage Cream (PTI) paper and covered it.

I almost glued down the ribbon on the inside cover, but opted to leave it loose. This way, she could use it to slip notes, envelopes, etc. behind the ribbon. :)

Stephanie's "S" Challenge!

My Pen Pal, Stephanie, came up with another challenge...this time to use a "s"tamp "s"et that starts with "S" (as her name is "S"tephanie). She's just lucky my name isn't Xavier. ;) I "threw a wrench in the works" (as she put it!) and said that we needed to use a color (or colors) that also started with "S". ;) Here's with what I came up:

I'm really pleased with how this turned out, to be honest (and arrogant). It was the first time I used "Simple Sunflower" (PTI) and I know I'll use it again and again...seeing as "s"ummer is not too far away (gah, I can't wait!). The sentiment is part of the stamp set, but the ampersand ("&"), is part of a Hero Arts set called "You & Me". LOVE that set...because it has various sizes of ampersands. :)

The leaves are actually from PTI's Rosie Posie. I didn't care much for the small leaves included with the Simple Sunflower set.

Oh...and the background "tablecloth" is one of Market Street Stamps' backgrounds... "Gingham." Have I mentioned how much I love that stamp?! ;)

The color I chose here is "S"o "S"affron (SU!). Looking back, I could have probably used "S"age "S"hadow (SU!) for the leaves. ;)

Have you ever had a picture in your mind on how you'd want a card to turn out.

And the card had other ideas?

Yeah... well, that's what happened to me this morning. I woke up with an image of what I wanted to do and ended up with the following:

For example, I was going to use a red/black/white combination. Yeah... do you see any red or black in that card? Neither do I.

Also, I had no intention of using a music sheet background... but my MSS stamp hollered at me from the other side of the room until I caved.

Here's a close-up of the flower and leaves (the leaves were done with an MSS background stamp "Bit of Burlap":

And see that sentiment? Yeah, that is "just a note" from Fillable Frames #12 (PTI). Imagine how much I sweat as I decided to cut the acrylic stamp to have it fit in the circle...but I'm very glad I chose to!

So there you have it... I'm not TOO disappointed with the results, although I sometimes wish I could have my way in my creative process! :P ;)

Storage - Large Background Stamps

Every so often research to make our hobby more efficient pays off. This is one of those rare jewels. :)

I was looking for some way to store my large stamps, (e.g., background stamps from Market Street Stamps). I knew I liked how I've been storing my clear stamps in CD cases, but it was obvious these stamps would not fit in CD cases...so then I thought DVD cases. The problem was is that I was finding only DVD cases with that little hub thing in the center.

I continued searching and stumbled upon tapeonline.com and more specifically these bad boys: (click here). At 88 cents, I couldn't resist... so I purchased 10 of them. :) I couldn't be happier.

I got the basket at Michaels and I was quite happy that the color actually matches much of the decor in my craft area. :)

That is the case opened up. It can fit two stamps, back to back. However, if your stamps are rubber and have foam attached, I would think that one could fit comfortably.

Online Class: Clean & Simple - Day 2

Well, Day 2 of the Clean & Simple Online Class and this was a bit harder than it first appeared. :) We were to create a card that was only ONE layer! Eep... I thought I could do it and make it look presentable. Maybe I just rushed... or maybe I just need to stick to more than one layer. ;)

I wanted to make the shells appear a bit more random... but I failed. ;) However, I did learn that in creating these cards the T1 Copic Marker is your friend! ;) It adds dimension (at least a little bit). :)

Online Class: Clean & Simple - Day 1

I've taken my first online cardmaking class and I'm quite excited to learn from some pretty impressive teachers! :) It's been so interesting to get into their minds and see their reasoning and design methods.

Our first assignment was to create a clean and simple (CAS) card based on one of three sketches. I chose this sketch:

I've wanted to beef up my arsenal of thank you cards, so I think that is what I'll be primarily making during this class. :) Two birds, one stone. ;)

I really am not one to follow trends (clothes, music, etc.) but I did see this paper and figured that since hexagons are pretty "in" right now... what the heck? ;)

(Note: I was going to add some black embroidery thread in those buttons and I honestly tried. Then I remembered why the first three letters of "tedious" are "TED". :P

A Pen Pal Challenge :)

Well, my pen pal, Stephanie (click her name to see her incredible blog!) and I decided to challenge each other with a task - create a project/card using a stamp set starting with the letter "L".

So... I sorta did that. :) I used a stamp set "Love Birds" (Papertrey Ink). Sure, it's only for the "Love Birds" and "That's us" sentiments...but it still counts! :P

Birthday card for brother

My big brother is turning the HUGE 5-0! (Of course, I don't remind him TOO often). :)

Anyway, I wanted to create a special card for this special milestone. I also wanted to take part in this fun challenge that Market Street Stamps and CAS-ual Fridays is putting on! Check out the challenge by clicking either of those blog names. :) The challenge was to use an MSS stamp as well as something in kraft and twine! Great opportunity since I was creating a masculine card! :)

The Zen of Paper Piecing

Have you paper pieced lately? It's therapeutic in a oh-my-gosh-i-am-going-insane type way. :) Especially if there are detailed pieces. :)

I recently did it when I wanted to revisit a stamp set I hadn't used in a while - Friendship Jar and Friendship Jar: Summer Fillers.

When I got to the topper, I REALLY wanted to put "Thank you BERRY much!" in the tag, but both stamps I had of that sentiment was too large. :P So, I went with the one that came with the stamp set.

Well, this is a twofer post (two for the price of one!) :) I've been a busy cardmaker. And these are just a couple of cards I've made. I've just been enjoying my last few days of freedom before I must return to my task of monkey wrangling. :)

Another Christmas thank-you card

Poinsettia Thank You

I've always struggled with creating a thank you card for the Christmas gifts I may receive. I feel they should be related to Christmas, and yet simple enough to do so that I could make many of them. Well, I think I may be on the right track with this piece I whipped up this morning after I woke up.

I first stamped the poinsettia and then thought that it needed to be showcased just a bit more. So, I took out my T1 Copic Marker and outlined it...

For the sentiment on front, I wanted to add some more visual interest, rather than just stamp "Thank you", so it occurred to me, I could try sectioning it off. While I'm pleased with the outcome, I do think next time, I'll focus more on making sure the panels are STRAIGHT and LEVEL! Hopefully the recipient of this particular card won't notice (or won't mind so much!) ;)

I put the HAM in gingham! :)

Now, you know that when I get excited about something new, I have to yell it from cyber rooftops. :) This is no exception!

Long backstory made brief:
- I spoke to my PTI buddy Jen Carter and she suggested Market Street Stamps. She said I'd be very happy with them. :)
- I looked at their site (click their name above) and was quite impressed. :) I then stumbled upon a FULL background of gingham and a full background of argyle. I think I had died and gone to background heaven. ;)
- I then read Stephanie Washburn's tutorial on how to best use their stamps. (You can click on her name and it will take you to it). So easy!
- I ordered them on a Monday. By that Thursday afternoon I had them in my hands. Wow! From Wisconsin, no less! Love that!
- Today I had the chance to play with them... and here's with what I came up:

Wait. Before I show you... let me show you the paper I stamped. Now, there's a story behind this. The FIRST attempt wasn't that great. There was a bit of a blemish. I kept it, however, as it was on the edge so I figured I could use it later. (I'm glad I did...read on).

I created this card and ran it through my Vagabond using PTI's canvas impression plate (to make it appear to be cloth) and here's the result:

I was rather pleased with my results. Oh... a tip you MAY want to try (while following Steph's tutorial). I used the scratch paper, as she suggested...but then...after pushing down a bit with my fingers, I took out my trusty brayer and rolled it a bit. That seemed to get a nice clean image as well. :)

Okay...back to the story.

I was really on a roll... until I tried to sew the card. It ruined my work! :P Long story short, it ended up in the trash and I pulled out my backup gingham. It wasn't until I glued it down that I remembered I hadn't impressed it with canvas. :P Oh well. I brought the card over to my REAL sewing machine (*sticks tongue out at Sew Mini*) and was happy with the results.

So there you have it. I'm in LOVE with the gingham background (I've wanted a good background of gingham for YEARS!).

Yes, I know... I know. It's been a LONG while since I've posted my creation. Truth of the matter is... I haven't felt inspired and have lost my crafting mojo. I do apologize and am hoping that not TOO many of you have deserted me!

I got to crafting this last weekend and came up with this little card when PTI's Winter Penguin demanded some attention. :)

Yes, he's embossed with black embossing powder. Let me tell you that was no easy feat! I had to die-cut him and then SOMEHOW stamp him with nearly invisible Versamark. After that, I used powder and hoped that it was good coverage and then had to somehow hold him to apply the heat. I'm pretty happy with the results, however. :)

Okay, so the title is a corny prelude to my latest project, but it was fun, regardless. ;)

Just as fun was finally getting into my Craft Zone (it's not in a room, but a corner of my family room! :P) and make a Christmas card.

I've used one of Papertrey Ink's latest toys --- a poinsettia die --- with PTI's felt to make a card that, while it looks like I spent a lot of time, was really one of the fastest cards I've made!

I know the flower looks dark, but it's a beautiful deep red (PTI's Scarlet Jewel felt). And while the ink border I created appears blue, it's black. I promise!

Since this is a square card and fairly thick, I plan on hand-giving it to the recipient. I may make more (with different-colored flowers). It's simple and yet looks rather elegant (if I do say so myself). :)

A Three-Hour War...

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful dread.
That started with a man's idea
To make some war with thread.

The morning started fine enough
No fabric on the floor
He could not be that prepared
For a three-hour war.
A three-hour war.

That's right, folks... now... sit back and allow me to place some imagery in your heads.

Picture a man... civilized, calm, cool and collected. He goes into a store and purchases a nice pillow for his home. Just a little something to add some autumn decoration. He pays for his purchase and leaves smiling. Thirty minutes tops, right?

Now...picture the same man... sweating, swearing, and swaying. Grumbling over a cutting mat why he can't cut a VERY SIMPLE rectangle of fabric when he can easily cut out a circle of paper! He's eyeing his faithful machine "Stitch" and then eyeing the window near the machine. How loud would the crash be?

Now... for a pictorial:

Hello all!

Sorry I have been MIA these last few days... um...weeks? I have no excuse. I just haven't felt that crafty.

Well, this is a slightly different post. Instead of my paper *cough* masterpieces, this is going to take a look at a new hobby I thought I'd try.

You see, the reason I called this blog "Happily Ever Crafter" instead of "Happily Ever Paper", is because I saw down the road that I may want to attempt other crafts... such as um.... needle 'n thread. :P

So, without further ado... I present my latest toy in my arsenal:

He (She?) doesn't have a name yet...so if you have suggestions, I'd like to hear 'em! :) I was thinking "Sewlomon" (he appears wiser than me!), but not sure if that's catchy. Maybe Thready-Neddy? Or perhaps just "Stitch"? :P

Anyway, this morning, I thought I would take it out of the box finally (I've been afraid for the week I've had it!) and give it a shot. The instructions were clear on how to set it up... so I tried!

Celebrating my Aunt Joan

In many ways, my Auntie Joan is a stronger woman than which she gives herself credit. Of those many ways, one way is that she's a breast cancer survivor two times over.

So, it only seemed fitting that this month, when we celebrate the people who are battling, or have battled breast cancer, I create a card for my aunt.

I was very pleased with how this card turned out! :) I knew I wanted to incorporate the symbol for breast cancer victims, but I really didn't know how I'd do it.

This was supposed to be a close-up! LOL!

I almost added a white pearl over the ribbon, but thought that it should stand by itself.

Well, it's been a while since I've added anything to my blog because, mainly, I haven't created much! With school starting and with the advent of parent-teacher conferences, my time has been pretty swamped. I hope things will slow down in the next few weeks. Keyword: HOPE. :)

In any case, I was wondering through Google Reader and came across the blog of a buddy of mine. His name is Curt (check out his blog here!) and I saw he had found some adorable Halloween stamps in the $1 bin at Michaels. I was REALLY fond of his mummy card (shown here) and emailed him and asked him about it. He said he found it at Michaels. I went looking around my Michaels and couldn't find the mummy! Yes, I had lost my mummy! (It had to be said....did you miss my humor that much?! :P ) Anyway, I found some other adorable images, including this cute vampire dude.

Long story short (too late!), I had asked Curt that if I couldn't find it here, if he'd be willing to purchase the mummy and send it to me. Well, it came as no surprise that this wonderful friend said that would be no problem at all (he has a heart of gold!) As it turned out, however, I did find the mummy at the last Michaels I had checked!

But I wanted to thank him for his kindness anyway...and so this pun-filled card came into fruition. (He'll be receiving it shortly and I hope he doesn't read this before then! ;) )

Well, a sweetheart of a fellow crafter, LB (I call her) told me in a comment recently I had to post something. Far be it from me to ignore the commands of you beautiful women... so here you go. :)

I decided to have some friends from work over to do some crafting. I also wanted to wish them a happy Fall. Why not combine the two cards?!

I was quite happy with the background I created... but it needed something more. So, I decided to glamour up the acorn and leaves... but then wanted to tie the glitter into the card itself. So, I added a strip of Scor-Tape and some glitter. Not sure if that was a wise move!

Hello all,

You can't begin to realize how touched I am with the emails and comments wondering if I'm okay. To feel this loved and valued is more than I'm certainly worth. Thanks so much for the kind thoughts.

Truth is, I've just been busy with school starting. It's always crazy this time of year. Add to that the fact that my computer decided to DIE on me the weekend BEFORE school started just added to the fun times. I'm also battling some VERY MINOR health issues (nothing to worry about) and that's just the sprinkles on the ice cream of fun. :P

But all that aside, I count my blessings. I have my health, a home, and a job. I have friends and family and people online who are a support system. And, most importantly, I have the promise of a Savior who tells me that there will be a day when I'll be reunited with Him for eternity. Really... can anybody ask for more? Focus on our blessings and the moments of despair will just melt away, much to the anger of Satan.

Again, my friends...thanks so much for your thoughtfulness and I just wanted to reassure you that I'm fine and that hopefully when things settle down and I have some time, I'll be back to crafting and sharing my mediocre creations with you!

May God richly shower you with blessings that only He can provide.

Starburst Jars

I always try to do something a little special for the office staff and custodian to let them know I'm looking forward to a great year with them.

This year, I thought I'd make some candy jars and fill them with Starburst candies. :) I also thought I'd create enough for my teammates as well as a special friend. :)

Here are the jars (I created seven of them and it took me mere minutes, thanks to the magic of MASS PRODUCTION ;) )

It's hard to tell, but the strawberry is up on dimensionals. :)

And since my buddy/teammate Greg doesn't strike me a guy who would like some fruity jar on his desk, I figured I would pay homage to his native state of Michigan. :)

Our custodian probably won't like fruity decoration either, and since I'm not sure what are his interests, he'll just be getting a plain jar brimmed with the candies. :)

All day long, Nichole is hosting on her blog challenges! There will be ten (10) in all. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the marathon, but I'll have fun trying. :) Each challenge offers a chance to win the limited edition stamp set! :)

The first challenge has us creating some patterned paper and using them as strips on our cards. Seeing as I've been hankering to take out my Guidelines and use them, this was perfect. Also, I plan on using each challenge to buff up my "Thank You" card collection! :)

With Sympathy - PDCC 91 Color Splash Challenge

My mom recently heard some sad news that her mobile home park's manager lost his battle with cancer. Thankfully, he and his wife are both believers, so they'll be reunited soon. Of course, right now the pain is still deep, so I figured I'd create a sympathy card. Although I don't know her that well, I wanted her to know that people are praying for her comfort and solace.

My Google Reader told me of a PDCC challenge (find out the details here) and I have ALWAYS loved the look of neutral colors (especially black and gray) with color splashes. So elegant and eye-catching, right? :)

Well, if you know me at all, you know I have a love for anything maritime or nautical. Not sure what it is, but there's something about lighthouses, ships, and lore of long ago coastal adventures that bring me back to being a boy and reading about pirates, whaling, and haunted harbors! Fun stuff! :)

That's why when I saw the color challenge of Embellish magazine located here, I just knew it was my type of challenge!

Here's the inspirational image:

Ah...look at that old boat...what stories could it tell and how many captains were at its helm, steering it safely through winds that were anything but smooth? :)

Homewarming Gift for Kathleen

A friend of mine, Kathleen, is about to move into a brand new apartment. She states that she doesn't know how to cook but that she'd like to start. :)

Well, my wheels got to spinnin' and I thought I'd create a recipe box as a homewarming gift, using Papertrey Ink's Recipe Box and Recipe Box Label stamp sets. :)

I also purchased a box from PTI...

That foam divider was an idea I got from Nichole Heady's blog... here.

And a close-up of the divider cards...these were a BEAR to line up...making sure the circle punch-out wasn't too high or too low on the Melon Berry card! :P Then to arrange them so they are staggered!

To a Great Pear! - Inspiration from Gina K! :)

Gina K, owner and muse of Stamp TV is a genius when it comes to elegantly creating clean and simple cards. That is why it should come as no surprise that I'm often inspired by her. :)

In a recent video, seen here, she created a very cute card featuring pears! :) It just so happens that I have some pears from a PTI set "Fruit Fusion: Pear"! What are the odds!

So, anyway, I was inspired by her layout and decided to try my hand at it myself:

One thing I did differently was the embossed background. Don't you just LOVE the Cuttlebug EF that has pears? :) It's pretty fortuitous that it had such a fruit. You won't find the folder separately, but it's part of the set of four folders and I think the set is called "Preserves". I got mine at Michaels with a coupon.

See the juicy centers of the pears? Yeah, well that wasn't the intention. I WANTED to use Glossy Accents on JUST the seeds. Well, good luck with that... they sort of gooped together. ;)

I plan on making this a wedding or anniversary card when/if the need arises. I will just add the appropriate sentiment on the inside. :)

Every so often, I'm surprised when I'm delightfully inspired by one of my fellow crafters and then every so often I'm not surprised at all... because the crafter is easily inspirational. :)

Such is the case with my PTI buddy, Laurie. Check out her blog here.

Besides having a style which causes me to drop my jaw each time I see her work (it's similar to mine and at a caliber of mine (that is if you multiply my caliber by 1,000) :P She's wonderfully artistic and has such a vision!

Anyway, I digress. She's (of course) in my Google Reader so when I saw this card here I just had to try the technique. :)

Crafting in a bad mood!

Okay, so I've been in a crabby mood all day. My PS3 "Move" controller didn't connect to my Playstation 3, so... after doing the sensible thing: throwing my phone all over my living room... I decided to return it to Best Buy. >:( I was NOT happy. You do NOT get in the way between a man and his video game.

Never.

Ever.

Anyway, I thought, "What the heck... I'm in a ticked-off mood... let me see how I can mess up a card, shall I?!" And I'm in a black, grey mood and I was DEFINITELY seeing red. :P

And I had an idea...and, of course, I messed up a few times with the background image before I finally figured out, "Scrag it! I'm going to just improvise!" And so I did...

Fourth of July for my buddy, Rob!

Well, my best friend's coming for a visit today and I anticipate a ride to Best Buy to check out one of the latest video games. I realize that the game will quite overshadow this card I created for him, but I couldn't resist.

Backstory: You see, I've been clamoring for Papertrey Ink to come out with a die for their beloved Vintage Picnic basket image...and lo' and behold... in June they came out with one! When I saw it, I immediately knew I wanted to try it with balsa! :) So, my first attempt didn't come out half-bad (if I do say so myself):

I realize that the added Stickles makes this appear to be more like a nautical porthole in a ship, but I just figured the black circle mat needed a little somethin-somethin. :) If I were to do this over again, I'd use Night of Navy (the same color of the DSP).

Hello all,

I'm not sure if many of you are aware, but Nichole Heady, co-owner of Papertrey Ink, has started something pretty awesome on her blog. It's called Make It Mondays and it's wonderful because she, or one of her DT members, will show a technique and challenge people to try it and share their creations. :)

I know I'm a bit late, but I've been lazy in taking the picture of my creation. :)

I wanted to try a circle frame, rather than a rectangle, so I got out my trusty Nestabilities and went to work on following Nichole's technique. Here's the finished project:

I've also wanted to play with Rhythm and Soul, a PTI set created by a fellow PTI forumer (Lizzie Jones)! I was sorely lacking musical instruments in my arsenal so I was thrilled when this came out! :)

Of course, what good are instruments without music? So, I used PTI's Background Basics: Sheet Music for a side panel. I inked the edges with some Mellow Moss ink to tie-in some of the green:

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. I wasn't sure about the Hawaiian Shores base card, but I think it adds a bit of cheerfulness to an otherwise elegant card. :)

First Fourth of July card this year. :)

Well, I've taken advantage of my time off this summer and created my first Independence Day card. :) I've used PTI's est. 1776. I love this set because it's quite "Americana"... distressed and rustic. Great set!

A Whale of a Birthday!

Okay, because in a recent paper PTI order, I needed some "fillers", so I picked up the Whale Wishes along with the accompanying die. I'm happy I did, because it's quite fun!

I wanted to do some paper piecing, but since the stamp itself is a solid image, I had to just go with the die. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but overall, I'm pleased.

Now, I wanted to have the little guy (girl?) in the Lacey Circle Nestability, but I wanted it to fit. So, I trimmed off the top part of the circle. I was about to throw out the top part, but realized that it may make some good "waves"! A couple of dimensionals later, and I had them. :)

I think if I do this next time, I'd add some Swiss Dots or some other type of embossing to the "waves" and surrounding circle. Just to add some visual interest. ;)

I also had the sentiment on a double-banner hanging off the card. At first, I was a bit nervous about working off my canvas, but I just made the card base smaller so it could still fit in an A2 envelope. :)

Birthday Cupcake - Window Card!

Every now and then I realize that perhaps I am becoming a real paper crafter because I get inspiration from all types of places, craziest of them being...OTHER GREETING CARDS! ;)

A co-worker showed me a thank-you card she got from one of her students. I was impressed with the little window and how it had been stamped (by a machine) with a beautiful butterfly. The inside sentiment peeked out. I thought I'd give it a shot.

I was looking through all my supplies and came across some Martha Stewart cupcake stickers. :) I thought that was perfect for a birthday card. I then wanted something around it, and ended up using Beautiful Blooms II (from PTI). Perhaps flowers aren't very "birthday-ish", but they worked for me! I also wanted some colors to pull out from the cupcake holder (gingham).

For the ribbon, I wanted to find a color close enough to match the icing, but all I could come close to was some Spring Moss twill (from PTI). I decided the button should mirror the cherry on top. ;)

Okay, I'm dedicating this blog post to "Dee in NH". Dee is such a sweetheart and always leaves my blog love and always has uplifting comments. I've tried to contact her through her profile, but there is no contact information, so I figured I'd "send" her a thank-you card by using my blog and her computer monitor. ;)

Nichole Heady always does such wonderful art and when I saw her blog post here I knew I wanted to use the same technique she did with her carnations. Scroll down to look for the picture of the Fresh Snow carnations on kraft paper. In fact, I did not recall she used Year of Flowers: Carnations when I created this card:

I love how the T1 Copic marker gives dimension and depth to the flowers. :) Here's a close-up of the bow:

It's somewhat hard to see, but the little ribbon tail is adhered to the card on its right edge, but the "forked" end is raised with a dimensional. :)

There is a co-worker/friend at work who always causes others to smile. She's very uplifting and always sees the good in others. She's quite grounded and has many qualities I sorely lack, but wish I had. She's Tanya. :)

While making cards today, I was inspired to make her a gift just for being her. I came up with a set of thank-you cards.

Now, you may not be able to see it in the card (but you can in the reflection!), there is a white mat behind the Smokey Shadow panel. Try as I might, I couldn't photo edit it so it would show! You'll have to take my word for it. ;)

Enjoy the Ride - Harley Style! ;)

At a recent "Used Stamp Sale", I found this image and knew it was going to be used for my Dad's Father's Day card! :)

My Dad is a 73-year-old kid who STILL rides a Harley-Davidson bike every chance he gets, much to my Mom's chagrin! ;)

Of course, I had to use the Harley colors of black and orange. ;) And when I found I had some metallic paper, I knew I had to grab my Diamond Plate Cuttlebug embossing folder and have some fun! :)

Fruit Fusion: Cherries

Well, what started out as a "Oh gosh, I don't think this is going to work" ended up as a card that doesn't look half-bad. :)

I wanted to play with one of PTI's newest sets: Fruit Fusion: Cherries and combine it with a new Cuttlebug embossing folder I got from the "Preserves" set. Here's the result:

Overall, I'm pleased with the card. I'm NOT pleased with how the one tail of the bow is being stubborn and won't lay nicely. That's one drawback of the "Bow Easy". The tails don't lay as I'd like them. :P Ah well, it is what it is. No use crying over spilled milk... or over misbehaving bows, as the case may be.

Hello all!

It's good to have you here with me and checking in to see who won the latest (and last) HEC! As always, I want to thank those of you who have participated. I have truly enjoyed seeing and commenting on each of your creations!
