Poppy Seed Challenge #1 - Flower, Yellow, Crystals AKA "Ted + Copics = Don't Mix!"

Lisa Johnson started a new series of challenges called "Poppy Seed Challenge" on her blog. Her first challenge is to use some seeds. It has to be at least ONE seed of the following: the color yellow, a flower stamp, and a crystal. Here's the specific post: Poppy Seed Challenge #1.

I wanted to try the new Year of the Flower: Violets (from Papertrey Ink) stamp set because I've seen so many beautiful cards created and then Copics used on them! :)

Well, in my unskilled hands, here's what happened when YOURS TRULY tried to use Copics. (I'll try to ignore any uproarious laughter! LOL)  ;)

I know I need to be patient with myself and hopefully as I get more experience with Copics, I'll be a bit more how should we say.... SKILLED?!  ;)

Here's a close-up of my so-called violet:

Here's a close-up of the top portion that is dry-embossed with a Sizzix folder:

Thanks for looking and/or commenting! :)

Recipe:

I think you "Did done good" with Copics. I'm very impressed. Love the embossing folder you used. I'll have to search for that one. Hugs, Christina.

Don't be so hard on yourself Ted! It may not have turned out how you would have liked but I think the flower is beautiful!! Along with the card! :)

Ted, I think you did a great job! My first Copics are on a truck somewhere, headed to my house. You are free to laugh at my first attempts when I show them. But rest assured, I didn't laugh at yours!

There is a lot I like about this card Ted. The embossing is perfect. The bow is tied perfectly and I think you did a really good job coloring the violets with copics. They are not easy to work with and yours looks really good. Nice job on the challenge.

I love it, Ted! I think you did a great job with the Copics. I really does just take practice to figure out the blending.

What a pretty card.

Wow! I'd say that's pretty impressive for your just starting with copics! I'm staying way far away from them - more so for my wallet's sake than anything! Nicely done!

Oh Ted! You ooze with talent! You always come up with cards that are beautiful and stylish, even when you are out of your comfort zone. You are one of my stampin' idols on PTI

Hi Ted! I think your violet is fine. Honestly that is the hardest flower I have colored, if you could see my crafting floor- its littered with half colored violets. I think InBloom is alot easier to practice your coloring on. I like your card, especially the embossing... very classy!

I'm new to your blog, so maybe this problem has been addressed before. Instead of photos of your cards, I get an ad saying "Upgrade to Pro Today". Do you have a solution?

This looks really nice and I think your coloring is great! I'm new with Copics too. I seem to "practice" a lot, but am not quite brave enough to use them "for real" yet. Awesome job!!

That is one cool sizzix folder, looks great as a complement to the main image. I wasn't even brave enough to BUY the violet because I shuddered at coloring it, so you're eons ahead of me! I think it looks fine!

LOVE this! It is beautiful! AND that embossing folders goes perfectly! tfs!

Nice job colouring. Practice, practice, practice and maybe buying a few more markers will help. Couldn't hurt, right!?!

Thanks for sharing.
