Stamp Organization

n the Papertrey Ink forums, there was a discussion to share how we organize our stamps.

I created this brief (okay, thanks to my Italian long-windedness, it's over eight minutes!) video to show you all how I store, organize, and categorize my stamps.

I understand that we all do it differently, so if you have information on how you store your stamps, and want to share, please leave a link in the comments! :)

You may want to video to stream a bit before you hit play (ie. you may want to hit PAUSE and wait and have your computer "catch up" by allowing the video to feed a bit) so that you don't have it gutter and interrupt. :)

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave them in the comments and I'll update this post accordingly! :)

Thanks for watching!

10 remarks (Thank you!):

Hehe, our stamp organization is amazingly similar. I use the same cubes (got most of mine at Target, some at Michaels), and the clear CD cases (buy them 100 at a time). I label mine with a Brother P-Touch Label Maker (don't like looking at my own handwriting). I organize mine by company. Like you said, whatever works for you. I can't bear the thought of my PTI stamps sitting next to anything other than more PTI stamps. I also use the 3-ring binder for a stamp "catalog" (printing the set images from the company's website). I haven't indexed mine as completely as you have, though. I may have to do that. Small world, yes?
Thanks for sharing!

Ted, thanks so much for sharing this. I am a former cataloging librarian so your system really appeals to me. Sadly, I do not practice my cataloging skills at home as often as I should, and my stamps are not nearly as organized as yours. You've inspired me to finally get mine organized.

Now I totally see why you and others were talking about keeping a binder of images. You have a quite a bit to keep track of! As my stash grows I will definitely keep your organization idea in mind. Thanks so much for sharing the video - it was perfect.

so how do you get the rubber stamps off the wooden blocks? i tried to get one off once, broke a nail, but couldn't budge that adhesive for the life of me. and then what do you have to do to them to get them to cling to acrylic?

I love your notebook idea of the general index in the front and then the alphabetized listing later in the book. I had started awhile ago stamping images and now I see that I don't "have" to if I can find the index sheets online. Bravo!

Hi Ted,
love your stamp organization system!! I, too, would like to know how you remove the stamp from the block without damaging the sponge under the rubber. Then once you get them off, do you mount them to a clear block, and is there a treatment to the unmounted stamp to get it to cling to the clear block? Lot's of questions, I know...I do love your system and would like to do the same at home. Thanks for your time!

Love, love, love the cross referenced system you have. I'm going to have to get one of those cubes since I've already outgrown my two MS CD holders and they just hold my PTI stamps. Definitely will have to get one before the 15th. Sigh. 0_o

Ted, thanks so much for the video and the peek inside how you organize your stamps!!! Love the idea, so I went out and bouught on of those cubes too! Love how it holds the stamps, no I just need to fill it up!!! Thought I had quite a few PTI stamps, but it doesn't even fill one of those drawers! Gonna have to rectify that situation as soon as possible! LOL. Also love the idea of taking all my wood block stamps off and placing them in CD cases as well. Frees up so much more storage.

Thanks for the peek again!
